Son Rise Programme in Autism
One example of a controversial treatment approach is the Son Rise programme as advocated by Barry and Samahria Kaufman. The Kaufmans are the parents of their now adult son, Raun who was proported to have had an IQ of 30. The Kaufmans wrote a book on how they ‘managed’ their sons autism which documented his ‘recovery.’ As a result of their self taught system, the Kaufmans run a successful sales & marketing operation with the basis of the teaching being the experience they had in raising andproviding ‘recovery’ for their son, Raun. Rauns story is told by himself in his video below
The Son Rise programme infers very strongly that Autism can be beaten and recovery is an expectation. The opening shot of this video creates the immediate impression of ‘recovery’ and thus an expectation to the viewer that this is a possibility.
